White Steam Car Advertisement, The Saturday Evening Post, April 10, 1909, page 39

The Saturday Evening Post, April 10, 1909, page 39.

Sadly, this White Steamer probably met its end in a junk yard. The shape of the radiator and the steam generator under the front seat clearly identify this as a White. The card is dated September 28 and although the author, W. E. Roberts, failed provide the year and the card was never postmarked, the date is 1909.  Roberts references the Hudson Fulton Centennial which was held in 1909.  Buck Hill Falls is east of Wilkes-Barre and southeast of Scranton, PA.

The card reads as follows:

This card shows what can happen to an automobile[.]  It was wrecked on a hill near Buck Hill Falls.  [I] was up to New York from Friday eve till Sunday eve to see the Hudson Fulton Celebrations.  Am expecting now to come up about eleven o'clock Saturday morning next by trolley.  Want to go to Francis Club in afternoon and come back for [unreadable word].  Sunday we take dinner at Eley's[?].  W. E. Roberts

Miss Minnie Kelly, Newhope, Bucks County Penna.

This postcard shows a family driving in its White Steamer.  The postcard is an undivided back, dating it before 1907, but the postmark is August 4, 1908. It is inscribed as follows: Touring in a WHITE. Geo. J. Donahue, Agt., Brocton, Mass  Photo by Hudson.".

This aluminum pocket calendar for 1909 was distributed by Benson & Hughes on 113 Franklin Street.  Because most commerce was local, there was no need for a city name.  Many postcards carry a street address with the word "CITY" rather than the city name because the postmaster, the sender, and the recipient all knew the city name.

There is no information about this lady in her 1909 White Steamer other than a name stamped on the back, "E. M. Fillmore.  According to the eBay seller, this photo came from a collection of a Ford Salesman named E. M. Fillmore.

This postcard is undated, but its divided back places it after 1907.
